“With progressive neurological conditions, the goal isn’t always about getting better—sometimes it’s about maintaining independence for as long as possible and adapting as things change. I walk that journey with my clients.”

Ciara is one of the team’s most experienced neurological specialists, with over two decades of clinical experience. She covers the East Dorset area including Ringwood, Verwood, Ferndown, Wimborne, and Fordingbridge, with particular expertise in progressive neurological conditions.

Early Career

Ciara graduated from Keele University in 2002 and began her career at major hospitals including Southampton General and Salisbury General. Her early rotations covered cardiothoracics, spinal injury, burns and plastics, stroke and care of the elderly, and respiratory and intensive care. This broad foundation gives her confidence managing complex, multi-system problems.

Neurology Specialism

In 2005, Ciara progressed to a senior position at Royal Bournemouth Hospital, where she chose to specialise in neurology. She supported people recovering from stroke, brain injury, Guillain-Barré Syndrome, MS, and other neurological conditions, building deep expertise in this challenging field.

Specialist Neurological Practitioner

Ciara currently works for Dorset Healthcare as a Specialist Neurological Practitioner, supporting clients in their own homes to manage progressive conditions such as MS, cerebral palsy, multi-system atrophy (MSA), and PSP. This NHS role keeps her at the cutting edge of neurological care.

Atypical Parkinson’s Expertise

Ciara has a particular interest in atypical Parkinson’s—conditions that are similar to Parkinson’s disease but progress differently and require specialised management. She takes a lead role in supporting individuals from diagnosis through to end-stage care, and is passionate about encouraging exercise and healthy lifestyle choices at every stage.

Extensive Network

Ciara has extensive contacts within the NHS, social services, voluntary agencies, and hospices. This network means she can help clients access additional services and support, coordinating care across multiple providers when needed.
