“Breathing difficulties can be frightening and isolating. I help people understand their condition, learn techniques to manage breathlessness, and build the confidence to stay active despite their respiratory challenges.”
Sarah is Medella’s respiratory specialist—a highly experienced physiotherapist who focuses on helping people with COPD, bronchiectasis, and other breathing difficulties. With nearly two decades of experience in respiratory medicine, she brings hospital-level expertise directly into clients’ homes across Hampshire, Dorset, and Wiltshire.
Respiratory Expertise
Since qualifying in 2006, Sarah has dedicated her career to respiratory medicine. She gained extensive expertise working in inpatient cystic fibrosis units, bronchiectasis services, thoracic surgery, acute medical wards, and intensive care units. This depth of experience means she’s comfortable managing even complex respiratory conditions and can recognise when someone needs additional medical input.
Transition to Community Care
After relocating to Dorset in 2012, Sarah transitioned into community therapy. She discovered that supporting people at home—where they could practise breathing techniques in their own environment and build exercise into their daily routine—often produced better outcomes than clinic-based care. She now provides expert advice and rehabilitation programmes for patients with complex, multiple pathologies.
What Sarah Can Help With
Sarah specialises in helping clients manage breathlessness, clear secretions effectively, maintain physical activity despite respiratory limitations, and recover after chest infections or hospital admissions. She also works with clients recovering from thoracic surgery and those managing long-term conditions like COPD.
Current Practice
Alongside her private work with Medella, Sarah maintains her clinical expertise by working for University Hospitals Dorset. This dual role keeps her knowledge current and ensures she’s always aware of the latest evidence-based approaches to respiratory care.
